Lake Hauroko Wairaurahiri River
13/10/2014
Many years ago Johan struck a wave on Lake Hauroko that he describes as a rogue wave. He said it was as high as a power pole.and powered over small islands in its way, there was no where to run so he climbed the foot of it ….
Reaching the top he says the wave was breaking (crickey) they burst through it and for what seemed forever the feel fall on the other side ended with a mighty thump. Luckily the Old Wairaurahiri boat affectionately know as the elephant boat took it all in its stride . More exciting storiesavailable in Lloyd Eslers Book Southland’s Wild Weather.
